Client Bored With Honed Finish
Homeowners in Poway, California loved the idea of having travertine floors, but they were dissatisfied with the polished finish of their travertine. It had too much reflectivity for their taste. They did some research and learned that the finish of natural stone could be changed from honed to polished or vice versa. They postponed calling in professional restoration contractors until the stone was due for a good cleaning and sealing and then contacted us so that it could all be done at once.
How We Changed the Finish of the Travertine
We used painter’s tape and plastic sheeting to protect the surfaces surrounding our work area. Our first step was to hone the travertine to clean the stone and remove any surface damage, such as etching and scratches. Then, we very lightly polished the stone to achieve the exact level of reflection that the client’s wanted. Our final step was to seal the travertine with a high quality impregnating sealer.
The homeowners were very pleased with how clean and elegant their floor looked.
