Gray Travertine No Longer Yellow

Client : Homeowners in San Diego
Info : Travertine cleaned and honed to remove antiquing

Problem

San Diego homeowners called us complaining about how their gray travertine had turned yellow. They tried to scrub the floors to bring back the original color and were disappointed when the discoloration persisted, despite their best efforts. We explained that what they were seeing was a common characteristic of travertine called antiquing, and it can only be removed through professional refinishing. Although some people prefer a darker patina, these homeowners did not, because the rest of their decor was better suited to the original gray color.

Solution

We cleaned and honed the travertine, removing a very thin upper layer of the stone to reveal the original color of the stone underneath. The homeowners were very pleased with the outcome.
