Dull, Damaged Restroom Floor

The property manager for a casino and hotel in Barona, California contacted us because the travertine and marble floors in the men’s restroom were in poor condition. There was surface damage, such as acid etch damage from urine, dullness, and light scratching. Plus, the hotel cleaning staff was having a hard time keeping the natural polished finish on these high-traffic stone floors clean.

Travertine and Marble Restoration and Protection

Our solution required several steps. First, we masked and protected the surfaces surrounding our work area. Then, we replaced grout and filled in holes with color-matched epoxy, as needed.

To remove surface damage, we honed the stone. Because of the close quarters, we used a floor machine in the open areas and used a hand tool for corners and smaller areas. As we worked, we swapped out the diamond pads with progressively finer grit pads, eventually achieving a beautifully polished finish.

In addition to restoring the stone, we applied a topical coating so that the hotel staff would have an easier time maintaining this floor from day to day. We explained to the client that this topical coating would occasionally need to be stripped and reapplied.

This casino restroom floor looks brand new again because of our professional stone restoration services.
