Homeowner’s Special Request
This travertine floor in Poway, CA was full of holes (also called “pits” or “voids”) and needed to be cleaned, as you can see in the BEFORE image. What was interesting and unusual about this job was that the customer requested that we use a contrasting filler.
Customized Restoration
Our travertine floor cleaning and honing process removed the surface damage revealing the brand new floor underneath, but we still needed to do something about those holes.
Normally, when we use what is known as traverfill or floating to fill in the holes with epoxy, we tint the epoxy to match the surrounding floor. But we set aside our usual approach to accommodate the customer’s request, and filled the holes with contrasting filler. Our final step was to apply a solvent-based, impregnating travertine sealer.
The results were definitely not what we were used to seeing, yet strikingly beautiful and unique, as you can see in the AFTER image. The homeowner was very pleased with the results.
