Caring for Your Saltillo
Sweep or dust mop your floors regularly to remove any debris from foot traffic that can get ground into the waxes and acrylic coatings. Immediately wipe up spills and use a slightly damp mop as needed. Use only recommended cleaning products. We make it a point to educate our customers on proper stone care.
About Saltillo
Saltillo, pronounced säl te’yo, is a form of hand made Mexican Tile often custom stained to beiges, yellows, and oranges. It is a very porous tile that is not completely flat or even due to the relatively low temperatures used during the firing process.
If the sealer on your Saltillo has worn away or was never applied, normal household cleaning will not penetrate dirt trapped in the porous surface. Wax sealants may become discolored to a darker shade and eventually begin to scratch and flake off. At this point, it is best to call a professional.
